# Fee Rebates

## Overview

A rebate returns part of your processing fee to you on each payment. Your fee schedule stays at its full rate, and the rebate is tracked and paid separately rather than being applied as a discount to the fee itself.

Rebates are configured per payment method by your Coinflow account team. Nothing changes in your integration to enable one.

> **Info**
>
> A rebate never changes what your customer pays. It is calculated from the payment subtotal and does not appear at checkout.

## How a rebate reaches you

Which way depends on how your fees for that payment method are configured:

| Your fee arrangement | How the rebate arrives | Field |
| ---------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- |
| Fees deducted from your settlement | A separate credit in the same settlement transaction | `rebate` |
| Fees billed to you on an invoice | A credit line on that invoice, reducing what you owe | `invoicedRebate` |

Only one of the two is ever set on a payment.

## Reconciling a settlement

When a rebate is settled, the amount deposited is **not** simply the subtotal less your fees — the rebate is credited on top. Use the `rebate` field on the payment totals to account for the difference:

```
deposited = subtotal − fees you bear − reserve + rebate
```

Both fields are included on the `Settled` webhook, so a settlement can be reconciled without a separate lookup.

```json
{
  "eventType": "Settled",
  "data": {
    "subtotal": {"cents": 10000, "currency": "USD"},
    "merchantPaidFees": {"cents": 380, "currency": "USD"},
    "rebate": {"cents": 60, "currency": "USD"},
    "total": {"cents": 10000, "currency": "USD"}
  }
}
```

> **Info**
>
> `total` is what your customer paid and is unaffected by the rebate.

## Where else rebates appear

* **Analytics** — the Settlements figure includes rebates, with the rebate total shown beneath it.
* **Statements** — rebates are noted under Money in. They are already part of the Payments line, because a rebate settles in the same transaction as the payment it relates to.
* **Invoices** — an invoiced rebate appears as a credit line, so the invoice shows the gross fees, the rebate, and the resulting amount due.
* **Transaction exports** — `Rebate Settled` and `Rebate Invoiced` columns.

## Refunds and chargebacks

A rebate is not reclaimed when a payment is later refunded or charged back. The refund returns the payment amount as normal, and the rebate you already received is unaffected.
